Objectives

The overarching aim of the SAFEWATER project is to develop a comprehensive and pragmatic platform to manage the safety and security of drinking water, reducing the time to react and effectively respond to a crisis, and thus, covering the Detection, Response, and Recovery stages of potential events.

In addition to this, five technical and managerial objectives have been identified.

Project Methodology

The SAFEWATER project is driven by the creation of concrete use cases corresponding to potential water security events. This will be established in Work Package 1. The subsequent four technical work packages will focus on the development and integration of a system architecture, event management system, event detection system, simulators and sensors in order to deal with such threats. This work will be supported by work packages focused on the technical and managerial coordination of the project and the dissemination and exploitation of the project’s results.

Work Package 1 represents the client for the SAFEWATER project. It effectively pulls the entire SAFEWATER project together to make sure that the technologies and devices to be built provide practical solutions to concrete water security problems defined by involved users and relevant to the topic in hand.

Innovation and Impact

SAFEWATER will represent a significant step forward both in terms of scientific and technological impact – bringing new tools for the detection and management of water security. Additionally at the societal and economical level the impact of enhancing the real-time response capacities to drinking water security crises, whether accidental or malevolent will minimise the negative impact of such situations on both the relevant society and its economy.
